Good, solid direction from Holmes veteran Roy William Neill, quality, reliable acting from leads Rathbone and Bruce, exceptional character acting from Alan Mowbry and company, and a zippy pace connected to a script that is able to develop the plot and suspense despite the length of the film being just under an hour. In the Night Stalker: The Hunt for a Serial Killer series by Netflix, the four episodes brought together with interviews, real footage, and honest conversations on … I had caught parts of Basil Rathbone's Sherlock Holmes while they were on television but, unfortunately, I was never able to finish any of them. The main complaint about this epic is the revelation about the identity of the villain at about 40 or so minutes into the action. There's not a second of screen time wasted in telling the tale of the Star of Rhodesia diamond that is stolen aboard an express train--and, of course, Sherlock Holmes, Dr. Watson and Insepctor LeStrade are all aboard the train, having been advised that someone is going to make an attempt to steal it. And in his death, or rather his disappearance, he created a mystery as strange and unresolved as any that he penned himself. Bruce is especially fun in his interrogations. Directed by: Roy William Neill. I do recommend the VIP tickets as queues were very long. The introduction is adequate but awkwardly written and hardly comprehensive; the collection itself is not all of Bierce's short fiction, and the arrangement is adequate—never poor or jarring, and sometimes aiding the flow between stories. The thirteenth and penultimate film in the Rathbone/Bruce Sherlock Holmes series, Terror by night is a considerable improvement on the one before it, Pursuit to Algiers. Holmes and Dr. Watson are hired to keep an eye on the "Star of Rhodesia"; a most precious jewel that travels from London to Edinburgh, along with its owner, Inspector Lestrade from Scotland Yard and a whole carriage of oddly behaving suspects. Be the first one to write a review. Dry wit, insightful irony, startling human perception, and no lack of horror—some human, some otherworldly, all of it crossing the boundary between the two in the impact it has on those involved—are all presented in a bare style that mimics simplicity but is actually skillful subtlety. Lovecraft wrote of Bierce's writing, in his essay "Supernatural Horror in Literature": "[There is in it] a rare strain of sardonic comedy and graveyard humour, and a kind of delight in images of cruelty and tantalising disappointment." You gotta love the classic Sherlock Holmes films - and I certainly do! ‘Night Stalker’ Is Just Another Gory True-Crime Misfire: TV Review 1 week ago HBO’s ‘Tiger’ Shows a Golfing Great’s Inner Turmoil: TV Review 1 week ago See All Indeed, Terror's only real flaw is that it has comes so late in the series that a slight bit of ennui has set in; there's a tinge of "been there, done that," nothing so overt that it derails Terror, but just enough to dampen its effectiveness slightly. September 10th 2006 Découvrez des commentaires utiles de client et des classements de commentaires pour Terror by Night: Classic Ghost & Horror Stories sur Amazon.fr. 6 reels, sd. An excellent, inexpensive, if somewhat incomplete (no Oil of Dog? So for me, Night Stalker was essentially a repackaging of everything I already knew, but to hear it straight from these detectives, the victims, and their relatives… I was riveted. One of the better entries in the Basil Rathbone Holmes series, with Watson and Inspector Lestrade bumbling more comically than usual and all the action set aboard a moving train. As no less a critic than H.P. Murder... at 90 Miles an Hour! Was this review helpful? The rhythm of the train and the steadfast bond between Holmes, Watson and Lestrade creates one of the most relaxing murder mysteries ever put on film. Of course, a variety of suspects emerge, particularly those who have cabins around the murder scene. Terror By Night is one of the better Basil Rathbone Sehrlock Holmes movies. It's not an imprint which you pick up for its own sake, but rather because it's the Bierce collection closest at hand. This book must have one of the most disturbing covers of any I have any read. Bierce's dark humor is delightful, and his horror is both intriguing and chilling, both as fearful pleasure and something outright unsettling. Even poor Dr. Watson is turning more and more into a caricature of himself, here pretending to be a police officer in order to prove that he can handle the work of Scotland Yard. It isn't a volume that I recommend outright, but if it does happen to be the Bierce collection closest at hand, then do pick it up—because Bierce is worth reading. Strangers, Suspects and Super-detectives on a train! We’d love your help. Rotten Tomatoes, home of the Tomatometer, is the most trusted measurement of quality for Movies & TV. Holmes, Watson, a suspiciously eccentric passenger list, and the Star of Rhodesia diamond are all aboard the London to Edinburgh express (which, if the wonderfu Much of the plot itself is fairly routine, but the setting and a good climax make this a worthwhile film. There was Abigail, the eldest; then Amelia, Ann, Addison, Aurelius etc. (THIS REVIEW IS FOR THE DVD Invisible Menace/Night of Terror) This DVD presents Karloff and Lugosi, each in a film that is not part of their usual fare seen in other collections.
